1917 William S. Haynes Piccolo Serial Number #3823
This beautiful, wood, William S. Haynes piccolo - serial number 3823 – is over 104 years old! This is NOT a modern scale (I
think
it is pitched at 436hz but don’t hold me to that frequency.)
I believe this to be granadilla wood. It sounds lovely and plays great – but like ALL older piccolos NOT pitched at 442Hz. Some listings on Ebay do not note that antique piccolos are pitched at a different frequency.
I don’t want anyone to be upset because they purchased a rare antique piccolo thinking they are going to use it in a modern orchestra. This piccolo has its place – but a modern orchestra ain’t one of them.
The piccolo comes with (what I believe to be) the original case with extremely high quality
duct tape hinge
(see the last picture).
It also comes with a newer Haynes case and a homemade case cozy.
